Change and Growth (CG) Goal: All students will develop career management competencies through an exploration of personal change and growth.

Connections to Community (CC) Goal: All students will explore the connection between learning and work pathways and their connections to community.

Life and Work Plan (LW) Goal: All students will engage in inquiry to construct a personal life and work plan.

Explore and draw conclusions about the influences of positive and negative self-images on one’s life and work.

Develop and demonstrate the behaviours and understandings needed for building healthy relationships (i.e., emotional, spiritual, mental, and physical).

Reflect on and express insights about how knowledge and skills learned in school transfer to one’s future life and work.

Analyze the contributions work makes to the individual and their community, including globally

Investigate and demonstrate the personal qualities and abilities needed to seek, obtain, or create work.

Investigate nontraditional work scenarios involving issues such as stereotyping and discrimination to assess the impact on life and work.

Explain how personal behaviours and attitudes influence the feelings and behaviours of others in school, community, and family situations

Describe the concepts of values and beliefs and identify their influence on developing one’s self-image

Identify the importance of developing a realistic and positive self-image

Explore behaviours reflective of a positive attitude about self

Demonstrate acceptance and flexibility for the feelings and beliefs of others in personal and group situations

Identify and practise appropriate social skills and attitudes when dealing with situations involving diversity of cultures and people

Identify positive characteristics of people and how they lead to healthy relationships with others

Identify strategies to practise personal management skills such as time management, adaptability, responsibility, and life/school balance

Practice effective communication skills such as assertiveness, conflict resolution, and problem solving which could be used in stressful situations

Research to identify the skills, knowledge and abilities needed in specific economic sectors such as manufacturing, agriculture, business or mining

Describe how personal skills and attitudes influence life and work-related successes

Identify how personal learning and interests may impact the selection of high school courses and future work possibilities

Compare how one’s own role as a student is similar to that of a worker’s role

Review the differences between work, jobs, occupations and careers

Research and report on some key occupations available in the various economic sectors in Canada as represented by sector councils

Demonstrate an understanding of the relationships between work, community and the economy

Communicate some examples of how one can contribute to the community through paid and unpaid work

Investigate and report on the global interdependence aspects of one Saskatchewan career

Identify work search tools required to secure work such as applications, portfolios, résumés, and cover letters

Identify how career development is a continuous process with a series of choices based on a number of factors such as interests, knowledge, skills, physical ability, and experiences

Compare advantages and disadvantages of secondary and post-secondary programs for the attainment of career goals including university, college, apprenticeship, and entrepreneurship

Reflect on and express personal reflections about “The High Five” messages of career development (i.e., Follow your heart; Access your allies; Change is constant; Learning is lifelong; and Focus on the journey)

Explore and discuss the concept of a preferred future as part of the life and work building process

Define one’s preferred future and communicate it through creation of a visual representation using various media (e.g., presentation software, digital video, desktop publishing, web authoring)

Understand how different work, community, and family roles require varying kinds and amounts of energy, participation, motivation, and abilities including physical, mental, and emotional

Examine how personal goals and family needs can be satisfied through a combination of work, community, social, and family roles

Describe and discuss the perceived advantages and disadvantages of various work and life role scenarios

Identify and investigate the advantages and challenges of entering non-traditional work including physical, emotional, spiritual, and mental challenges

Define the concepts of stereotype, bias, and discrimination and speculate how they may limit opportunities of oneself and others in certain work roles within the Saskatchewan context
